Three Wild Things at the Zoo!

On Monday we went to the zoo. Will had never been to our zoo and I think he liked it. Here are some pictures of our day.
Helen and I got to brush the goats. They let some sheep come in to the pen while we were in there and it scared Helen. She screamed and one of the rules was not to scream. We left the area after that. Wonder who that other kid is on the left? I've got no clue!
BIG FAT BEAR! We got to see almost all of the animals up close because it was such a nice day. This bear was huge! This is a black bear and these are the kind of bears that live in the Smoky Mountains near us!
This year in Science we are studying Zoology and the "Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day". We saw this sandhill crane at the zoo. It lives in Canada and migrates through Tennessee to the south sometime in the next month or so. You can see a bunch of them at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge during that time. We might go see them when they migrate soon. It eats insects, worms, fruit, plants and amphibians. I am learning all about them in my Birds of Tennessee field guide. We got so close to the gorilla that we could scratch his back!
Just kidding! There was some glass between us. The gorilla got mad and smacked the glass at me. It scared me to death. We also got to see baby George. He is the newest addition to the chimpanzee family but we didn't get a picture of him. He was very cute!
We saw an elephant up close. We watched him eat some hay out of a little net bag.
This is me driving the jeep on a safari.
This is Helen driving Will and me up to the giraffes!
We went into a section about barn animals and saw some owls. They eat mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians. Here are three barred owls!

My Brother Will

Hello Everybody! I'm back again. I know it's been a long time since I have posted. Last Wednesday I did a presentation about Will for my Enrichment Class. I wanted to take Will in my backpack, but that wouldn't work. Then I thought I could take him in a box and clap my hands and he would appear, but that wouldn't work. So, I just did a poster with a few pictures and talked about Will. Here is the video of me doing the presentation at home last Wednesday afternoon! You will have to pause the music on my play list so you can hear what I said! The playlist is all the way at the bottom of my page.

Second grade is really fun. It is also really long. Longer than I have ever done school. I like it because we keep it level. We have Math and then we equal it out with some free time; like we do math and then we do some other fun activities.

This year I am going to an enrichment class on Wednesdays. Today was my first day. We were a little late because I went with my family to Will's court date. We re-adopted him so we could change his name. In class we did a science experiment. First we put on purple gloves. Then we went outside and the teacher handed out eggs. We were squeezing them with our palms to see if they would break. We soon figured out that they wouldn't break because they are strong. Did you know that if two average sized adults stand on an ostrich egg, it won't break? It is really cool how the process goes. Ostrich babies peck out a little bit of a hole and then the ostrich parent helps them get out of the rest of the way.

I am getting ready to go on a trip to St. Louis with Granbob and Grankaki and Aunt Meg. We are going to a Cardinals vs. Astros baseball game. I asked mom if I could wear my old uniform to the game. She said it would be a little snug. I'll report back about my trip to St. Louis in two weeks!

I'm Back!

It has been a while since I posted on my blog, so I will catch you up on my summer. I finished first grade! Yay! Then I went to baseball camp at Farragut High School. It was a lot of fun. I went for four days and I improved in catching and fielding. The next week I went to VBS. It was fun also. This is a picture of Family Night when I got to jump on a Euro-Bungy! That was SO cool!

On Friday before my mom and dad left for Ethiopia, I accepted Christ as my Savior! It feels really good! Susi came to stay with us while mom and dad went to Ethiopia to pick up Will. This is a picture of me with Will right when mom and dad got off the plane. He is really cute and I like him because he is funny. He can be serious but he laughs a lot too.
We went to eat dinner with our friends, the Davis family. We went out on their boat and played in the lake. I ended up spending the night with Brady in their camper. We had a great time.
We went to Mooresville, North Carolina for our Beckett Family Reunion. My mom's last name used to be Beckett and that is where I got my name. Everyone at the reunion is from my mom's side of the family and they are all Becketts! This is a picture of me with Aunt Nell. She is my Granbob's oldest sister and the oldest Beckett family member. She was teaching me how to play bridge.
We went for a ride on the Catawba Queen and I got to actually steer the boat. It had a big paddle on the back of it. You can see Helen's hat in the bottom corner.

Me, Helen and Will on the boat.

On our way home from the family reunion, we stopped to visit Auntie Mame and Uncle Ron in Waynesville, NC. We always have fun with Auntie Mame.

Last week we went to a surprise party for my friend Emma's mom. Here we are with Emma.
And here is a picture of Emma holding Will.
The next day we had a party for Will at my friend's pool. Here I am with some of my friends when we were playing with Will before we went swimming!

I'll be starting 2nd grade in a few weeks. That is the latest from me!

Game Ball!

On Saturday we played a baseball game and we finally didn't lose! We tied! Yay! It was a fun game. I hit a double and a triple. The triple was almost over the fence! At the end of the game I was playing in center field and the ball was hit to me. I fielded the ball and threw it to first to get the runner out. It was close, but he was out. That was the last out of the game. We kept them from scoring, so we tied the game! Everybody started jumping and running to the dugout and dad picked me up and hugged me! Then the coach (dad) gave me the game ball! Very cool.
Here is a picture of me in the concession stand with the game ball. We had to work in the concession stand after my game. It was cool.

Bald River Falls/North River

Here are some pictures of our family trip the other day. We went to Bald River Falls and hiked to the top. This is a picture of me on some rocks beside the trail.

This is a picture of me, dad and Helen looking at the Falls from the road. Pretty cool!

We also went fly fishing. Dad taught me how to fly fish. It was fun.
Here is what Helen does while I fish. EAT! Mom said that in the first picture she is eating chex mix and in the second picture she is eating a banana!

The picture on top is when I hooked my fish! Mom ran down the bank really fast to get a picture of my fish and here it is! I caught a rainbow trout!
Here is a picture of it up close! Awesome!

Finally!

My front two teeth have been loose for a long time. Today one of them finally came out. I twisted it for about seven minutes and then mom came in and twisted it for about five minutes. Then it came out. It feels really weird to eat and I keep on trying to wiggle it, but it isn't there so I stick my tongue in the hole. I can already feel the big tooth coming in!
Of course while we were pulling it out, Helen was right there beside me. She kept saying, "I want the tooth fairy to come!" She would also sing songs about me getting my tooth out. I think she was more excited than I was!

I added a new song to my blog for Wheat, Lake and River! I want to see you dancing to this one!
